This is The Time … Merry Christmas, Everyone!

Apa yang paling kukangenin setiap kali Natal tiba selaen hiasan2 natal bernuansa merah cerah dan hijau… selaen pohon Natal anggun penuh dengan kelap kelip lampu… selaen kado yang  bertumpuk-tumpuk di sekitar pohon natal dan kandang tempat Yesus dilahirkan?

Ya… Lagu-lagu Natal… these extraordinary everlasting songs… yang udah diciptain sejak tahun2 dua puluhan… limapuluhan…yang terus saja dinyanyikan hingga abad 21 … ga pernah bosen dengernya… selalu membuatku untuk sing along… karena itu… postingan kali ini akan membahas beberapa christmas songs yang menurutku sudah menjadi legend dan historical karena ada beberapa cerita di balik lagu2 itu…

1. Silent Night

Stille Nacht, aslinya… diciptakan dalam bahasa jerman oleh Father Josef Mohr and the melody was composed by the Austrian headmaster Franz X. Gruber… dan udah dinyanyikan oleh lebih dari 300 artist dengan versi masing2… favoritku adalah versi acapella yang dinyanyiin oleh Boys II Men…

2. White Christmas

“White Christmas” is an Irving Berlin song reminiscing about an old-fashioned Christmas setting. The version sung by Bing Crosby is the best selling single of all time (wikipedia) . Yep… ini lagu sungguh di luar dugaan produser dan Bing Crosby sendiri… ketika direkam, mereka cuma membutuhkan waktu 18 menit saja dan tau komentarnya Bing Crosby setelah lagu ini direkam…? He just said “I don’t think we have any problems with that one, Irving.” Tapi inilah lagu terlaris sepanjang masa!! yap, SEPANJANG MASA!

The World War II had destroyed not only the nations but also the hopes and aspirations of millions. With an uncertain future the dark bleak days were a torment to many. White Christmas was like a fresh breeze, giving a feel-good feeling and succor to the tormented souls. The main reason was the song expresses a sense of yearning and peace. By the time the war got over, White Christmas was the biggest selling single, a record unbroken for more than fifty years. 3. Little Drummer Boy

The lyrics tell the apocryphal story of a poor young boy who, unable to afford a gift for the infant Jesus, plays his drum for the newborn with the Virgin Mary’s approval. Miraculously, the baby, although a newborn, seems to understand and smiles at the boy in gratitude. (wikipedia) … kalo diliat2 liriknya, di sana ada banyak sekali rum pum pum pum… ada 21 bait rum pum pum pum… and it sounds so sweet!!

aku pribadi sih sukkka banget ma ini lagu… so it’s the spirit of Christmas … it all matters! Just praise him Lord!

4.  I Saw Mommy Kissin Santa Claus

yang ini lucuuu banget apalagi liat visualisasinya… seorang anak terbangun dari tidur lelapnya di malam natal karena mendengar sesuatu dari ruang bawah… diduganya, bahwa sang santa claus sedang mengunjungi rumahnya untuk menaruh hadiah2 untuknya… dia mengendap2 turun dari kamarnya… dan melihat memang benar santa clause lagi ada di situ… tapi tiba2 ibunya masuk ke ruangan dan kemudian kiss the santa 😆 dia marah dan akan menceritakan hal ini pada ayahnya… tanpa diketahuinya bahwa di balik kostum santa claus itu ayahnya 😆

dan it sounds so cute kalo dengerin versinya Jackson 5… si Jacko nyanyiinnya bisa passs banget… hear he said, “I did! I did! I really did see Mommy kissing Santa Claus !!! You gotta believe me! You just gotta believe me! Come on, fellas, believe me! You just gotta believe me! I told you! I told you!” 😆 seakan2 dia lagi cerita ke temen2nya… and nobody believed him…

5. Do They Know it’s Christmas

Lagi-lagi proyek peduli artis-artis amerika untuk bencana kelaparan di Ethiopia tahun 1984… ditulis oleh Bob Geldof dan Midge Ure… dinyanyikan oleh irish dan british artists of that era, united in one band called Band Aid… they are Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Paul Young, Culture Club (without Boy George, initially), George Michael of Wham!, Kool and the Gang, Sting, Bono and Adam Clayton of U2, Glenn Gregory of Heaven 17 (whom Ure personally ordered down) and his bandmate Martyn Ware, Phil Collins, Paul Weller of the Style Council, Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt of Status Quo, Jody Watley of Shalamar, Bananarama, Marilyn (who was not invited but arrived anyway) and some of Geldof’s bandmates from the Boomtown Rats all arrived..

well cuma bisa bahas 5 itu aja… ada sedikit lebih banyak koleksi lagu natal di toxicmuzic… enjoy there!
